Front Range Community College is installing Narcan (naloxone) dispensing booths across its campuses to enhance the safety and well-being of students, faculty, staff and visitors. This initiative aims to provide immediate access to a lifesaving, FDA-approved medication that can reverse opioid overdoses.
FRCC is committed to the health and safety of our community—and this is one important step we can take to protect everyone who comes to our campuses. Preventing overdoses has become a critical issue as opioid addiction has become a nationwide epidemic.
FRCC’s Larimer Campus is the first location to introduce a dispenser and the college plans to install them on the Boulder County and Westminster campuses in the near future. By strategically placing a Narcan kiosk at each of FRCC’s campuses, the college is ensuring that help is readily available in emergency situations, potentially saving lives.
These booths dispense a nasal spray with instructions on the box for how to administer Narcan. The devices are free, and members of the community are welcome to pick one up to keep in their backpack, purse or vehicle.
Why Narcan Booths Are Important
Immediate Response
Opioid overdoses require rapid intervention. Having Narcan readily available on campus means that individuals can act quickly during an emergency, increasing their chances of survival.
Education and Awareness
The presence of Narcan dispensers will also serve as a catalyst for raising awareness about the dangers of opioid use and the importance of overdose prevention. Educational materials available at these kiosks will provide valuable information to the FRCC community.
Community Safety
The installation of these booths underscores FRCC’s commitment to the overall safety and well-being of its community. It aligns with the college’s mission to create a supportive and safe environment for all.
Reducing Stigma
By making Narcan accessible, FRCC is taking a proactive stance in reducing the stigma associated with opioid addiction. This move encourages individuals to seek help and support without fear of judgment.
Supporting Mental Health
The initiative complements FRCC’s ongoing efforts to support mental health on campus. Providing resources for overdose prevention is a crucial component of a comprehensive approach to student health and wellness.
