MYTH:  Only the select few with a unique talent are writers.

REALITY:  Everyone is a writer.

You are invited to participate in the National Day on Writing on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011.

National Day on Writing celebrates all forms of writing.

The National Day on Writing, established in 2009 by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), celebrates writing in all forms and demonstrates how writing is a vital part of our everyday lives.

Thousands of writers have submitted works to the National Gallery of Writing, an online gallery that showcases works from writers of all ages and talents. Submissions include not just poems, short stories, and articles, but also video, audio, blogs, and artwork.

Contribute to the National Gallery on Writing.

Whether you’re a parent, a teacher, a student, a business owner, or a retiree, you are invited to pick a piece of writing that matters to you and contribute it to the Gallery.

Visit NCTE’s Web site for tips for writers, sample submissions, and to hear popular authors talk about writing — such as Gail Langer Karwoski, who says writing is like “giving a giant hug to the universe;” and Sarah McCoy, who tells us “a day without writing is like a day without food.”
