In our first month of operation, February 2015, we welcomed 539 members. As a new academic year approaches, we have almost a thousand members. With growth like that, we can tell FRCC students and employees appreciate the new space. Students are going strong and make up the majority of membership.

We hope to improve campus wellness and participation this year with four campus challenges, 12 Fit Talk wellness presentations, 10 intramural events and leagues with new offerings of fall flag football and spring soccer, four fit-to-serve volunteer opportunities, and our new summer fit camps.

Group Fitness classes such as Total Body Conditioning, Zumba, and more are being offered. We have even begun to offer quick workout classes – 30-45 minutes – for the super busy. In the spring, be on the lookout for beginner workshops in yoga and weight training.

Students can keep up on all the non-credit activities and events on WolfLife.

In addition, now that we have access to our amazing facilities, we are offering a new variety of physical education credit classes such as Volleyball, Cross-training, and the return of Weight Training II. We are thrilled to receive such wonderful feedback with our vibrant teachers in PE, such as Casey Gordon for evening Yoga classes, Maren Waldman for Dance classes and Aryn Fleegler for Hiking class.

Upcoming for next year will be the addition of credit Basketball, and more outdoor credit options such as Camping. We are seeking instructors now to add for summer and fall of 2016.

On the non-credit side, we will begin our community outreach, offering a Summer Fitness Camp in 2016 for all ages, categorizing Youth 8-12 and Teen 13-16, over the weeks of June 6-23, June 27-30, and July 11-28. Youth camps will run from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays; teens, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mondays –Thursdays. Adults 16+ have two dates of sessions, June 6-23 and or June 27-30, with two time sessions of availability, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30-2:30 p.m.

And when the new year rings around, we are formulating New Year’s Resolution Fit camps to greet 2016.

We are excited to open the doors and provide our resources to connect with the surrounding communities. All members of the High Plains Fitness Center will receive a discount for their children and themselves.

Lastly, we are starting to rent out our fitness center and amenities. Corporate events, various organizations, and centers in the area may inquire about rental for space when it’s not being used during the academic year, including off hours and weekends.

Please send an email to Amber.Kavehkar@frontrange.edu for pricing and availability.
