Five Front Range Community College students have received $2,000 scholarships, thanks to a new partnership between the Colorado Women’s Education Foundation (CWEF) and the FRCC Foundation.
The students:
Monica Edlauer, who is studying Nursing at the Westminster Campus
Haley Vinton, who is studying for an Associate of Arts degree at the Westminster Campus
Susan Duguid, who is studying Health Information Technology at the Westminster Campus
Eliana Martinez, who is studying for an Associate of Arts degree at the Boulder County Campus
Patricia Brennan, who is studying Paralegal Studies at the Larimer Campus

CWEF awarded each recipient $1,000, and the FRCC Foundation matched that amount with funds from the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative (COSI) and foundation general scholarship funds. A $2,000 scholarship is enough for at least 12 credits at FRCC.
“The FRCC Foundation is always looking for new ways to partner to support the success of our students at FRCC,” said Ryan McCoy, executive director. “The funds from Colorado Women’s Education Foundation allowed us to unlock matching dollars from the Colorado Opportunity Scholarship Initiative for the majority of these scholars. Gifts to our annual scholarship fund filled in the gap. We hope to continue to partnership in upcoming years.”
The scholars met their benefactors at Scholar Meet and Greet conferences at each campus.

“The conferences were inspiring,” said Karen McGee, CWEF board president. “It was a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the FRCC Foundation Board and former scholarship recipients while spending time with current scholarship recipients.”
One of the scholarship recipients, who could have been speaking for all, said, “This matching scholarship was the most amazing gift I have ever received. It brought me to tears, as I truly needed it for the upcoming semesters. I am ecstatic!”
CWEF empowers women through education. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, academic ability, leadership skills, career goals, and community involvement. Eligibility includes being a woman at least 25 years old, a U.S. citizen, and resident of Colorado for at least 12 months before the application deadline of May 31. Applicants must be enrolled in accredited higher education institutions and be seeking vocational certifications or an associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree.
