Manufacturing production technicians in Colorado can earn as much as about $27 per hour, and you can become a certified production technician (CPT) through Front Range Community College.

The four courses for the certificate are provided online through the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC), a national industry-led organization that focuses on the core skills and knowledge needed by front-line production and material handling workers.

There are no prerequisites for the courses, which are self-paced and can be started any time. A student has six months to complete each course. Each course is the equivalent of 45 hours of instruction. The courses:

  • Safety
  • Quality Practices and Measurement
  • Manufacturing Processes and Production
  • Maintenance Awareness

Certification tests are given at FRCC after each course. Pass all four tests to qualify for the MSSC Certified Production Technician certificate.

Each course costs $495. A one-time MSSC registration is extra.
