A recent report on Fox News about welding jobs going unfilled in the Chicago area could have been reported from Colorado. We have lots of local companies looking to hire both experienced welders and new welders. Fabricators, pipe welders, and ironworkers are all in strong demand.
Welders need many skills.
Don’t be fooled. Welding is much more than just “burning wire.” It is physically demanding work, and a good welder will have extensive knowledge of structural design, metallurgy, and welding codes.
Our industry advisory committee members tell us they are looking for people with welding skills, certainly, but other skills are equally important. They look for people with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and knowledge of basic workplace safety.
Welders earn good money.
Starting pay for new welders can range from $14 to $20 per hour. Experienced pipe welders can make around $30 an hour for shop work, more if they travel.
