Eric Salahub, philosophy faculty at Front Range Community College’s Larimer Campus, has earned the Colorado Community College System’s Teaching with Technology Award.
He was honored at a meeting of the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education this month.
The Jerome Wartgow Teaching with Technology Award recognizes a full-time faculty member for excellence in using educational technologies to meaningfully improve teaching and learning. Salahub was nominated by FRCC, and selected from among nominees across the entire system.
“Eric is one of the most thoughtful and innovative educators I have ever worked with,” said FRCC President Andy Dorsey. “As a professor, faculty coach, and active learning advocate, he has improved teaching throughout Front Range Community College. He significantly changed my thinking about how powerful an online course could be. We are truly lucky to have him at the college.”
The focus of the award is on the teaching and learning process—with technology incorporated as an effective tool to stimulate, enhance, or expand the learning experience for students. Criteria by which nominations were evaluated included:
- Positive impact on student learning;
- Innovative use or adaptation of technology
- Contribution to the campus academic unit and overall campus goals to enhance teaching and learning with technology.
Salahub completed his master’s degree in philosophy at Colorado State University where he focused on ethics and the philosophy of science. After graduating, he taught philosophy at Oregon State University and Marylhust University for five years before being returning to Fort Collins in 1999 to join the faculty at FRCC Larimer Campus.
