I still remember the big trailer (well, it looked big when I was 6 or 7) that pulled up on the grass at Austin Park in Skaneateles, N.Y. The side of the trailer dropped down, revealing a stage. The Auburn Children’s Theater had arrived for a performance. It was “The Princess and the Pea.”
Outdoor theater is fun to watch. When it’s a children’s show, even better.
The Front Range Family Theatre Project hits the Larimer Campus Plaza next week with its annual performance. This year’s show is the fourth in a five-part “OZ” series. Yes, you may not have known that L. Frank Baum – like me, a native of Central New York (Chittenango) – wrote more than “The Wizard of OZ.”
Tom McCabe, a master storyteller from Massachusetts, has adapted the “OZ” stories, and this year’s production is “The Royal Wedding of OZ.”
Take that, Will and Kate!
Performances are at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. July 13-15 and 10:30 a.m. July 16 on the plaza outside the Longs Peak Student Center. There’s some room under the tent, but bring your own blankets, chairs water, sun screen, hats, and bug juice. For more details, read the press release.
